Mireille Robbe

Mireille Robbe (b. 1962, Brussels, Belgium) is an artist whose practice spans sculpture, installation, and drawing, with natural materials serving as both sources and tools. She meticulously pursues the philosophical and psychological quest to bridge life and nature. A graduate of Sint-Lucas in Brussels and the art academy in Leuven, Robbe’s meditative process combines intuition, experience, and reading, channeling embedded inspirations into a kaleidoscopic exploration of alchemical dimensions.

As her research lies in the fragile intersection of the tangible and the imaginary, her works unveil hidden narratives and psychological symbolism, such as in A Rose is a Rose is a Rose. Through spaces where nature and history converge, Robbe’s practice invites contemplation of our shared interconnectedness, shaped by a romantic devotion to the unseen— a resonance that reveals itself after a longer gaze.

Education

1981-1984: Painting – Sint-Lucas Institute – Brussels, Belgium

1978-1981: Arts – SITO – Leuven, Belgium

1978-1981: Drawing/Graphics/Ceramics studio – Academy – Leuven, Belgium

The works of Mireille Robbe are imbued with a quest to understand and represent the complexities of human nature. Inspired by the ideas of Carl Jung, she explores the concept of the image we project and our true identity, seeking to merge these two aspects in her art. This introspective process is reflected in the richness and depth of her creations.

Her work, much like that of the Surrealists, often stems from a recognisable reality that she enriches with her own thoughts and thorough documentation. Mireille uses the language of nature to express human concepts, sublimating natural elements to reveal profound and often hidden truths. This poetic and meticulous treatment of nature allows a mystical aspect, delicately concealed, to emerge in her works.

Like an alchemist, Mireille Robbe invites us to discover a universe where the visible and the invisible meet, where every detail, even the most obvious, hides a deeper meaning. Her works are a celebration of the sublime, where nature becomes a mirror of human emotions and reflections, urging us to contemplate the beauty and mystery of our existence.
