“For me, sculpting is both a physical and emotional process, in which the material shows the way.
It is a constant search for balance between strength and vulnerability. The strength is expressed in spirited, direct movements with the material — clay, plaster. The vulnerability is revealed in subtle accents: a modest posture, or the deliberate omission of certain parts of the sculpture.
How I shape the material is a direct response to what I feel and want to express.
Sometimes I take a step back — literally and figuratively — to observe, read and feel my sculpture. These moments of contemplation are not pauses, but essential conversations with the work.
The critical gaze tells me what the sculpture already says and what it still needs: an addition, a reworking, or perhaps an omission.
In this way, a deep connection with the work develops.
A process in which I slowly make the intangible tangible.”
