Kathleen Ramboer

Kathleen Ramboer needs to work on a variety of things simultaneously, using different techniques such as photography, drawing, collage, painting… and diverse themes such as Trees, Waterscapes, Seeds and Fruits, Arthur’s Herbarium, Outdoors, Limitles… for which she also regularly collaborates with others.

In her photography, where she initially focused on basic concepts such as light, shadow, darkness, hidden worlds, nature has now made its way into the foreground. Trees play a leading role in her work for several years. For Kathleen Ramboer, they are living beings that she follows over the seasons as a photographer, but also with an eye for drawings and paintings.

Kathleen Ramboer plays with sharpness and blur, with diffuse light and darkness, and with unusual muted colours. Her photographs create visual tranquility, inviting silence, concentration, and contemplation. There is so much to discover and experience.

Text: Gustaaf Vander Biest

Kathleen Ramboer literally and figuratively puts her love for nature into practice. Kathleen does this with mystical photographs that have a cinematic feel and resemble Art Movies. The images are simple, almost mundane, but through experimental photographic techniques and/or digital editing, Kathleen adds her own touch. What you see isn’t just another landscape photo; you see the landscapes, as it were, through the artist’s eyes. I also sense a hint of nostalgia lingering in the images. Some works are intensely black, as if they were charcoal drawings where you can almost smell the burnt wood. Other images are very airy, yet always with a mystical undertone. At times, I had to restrain my finger from touching them.

Career
Nature is a constant in the work of Kathleen Ramboer.
Collected, archived and catalogued nature forms part of her art/nature projects, such as ‘From Seeds and Fruits’ – ‘With or Without Dots’ – ‘Trees & Fungi’ – ‘Tipping Point’ – ‘Arthur’s Herbarium’.
Her ‘wanderlust’ translates into personal landscape photography.
Recently, her career in the graphic arts sector, particularly as a graphic designer, has influenced her artistry.
A fascination for vintage prints, paper types, and art prints leaves its mark on her art. Kathleen Ramboer combines photography with vintage prints, experiencing nature and visual art. This unusual combination evokes a world of fragrant printing inks, rattling presses, and stacks of paper. A digital paintbrush and/or drawing pen reconcile print with photographic material.
