Malvine Marichal

Malvine Marichal (°1963 Roeselare) is a contemporary artist who works with traditional and idiosyncratic embroidery techniques, in a way that is both intimate and powerful.

The recycled fabrics, threads and papers she works with, already carry a history. This gives her work an extra layer of meaning and sustainability.

She creates a new world in which memory and recovery are central. On white surfaces, the mainly black, white and red threads are strung together to form intriguing patterns. Lines and dots connect to surfaces and search for balance, beauty and meaning.

Nothing is unambiguous. Her work invites slowness and reflection in a world that is moving ever faster. She creates a new world in which reason and logic make way for intuition in its purest form.
