The exhibition is curated around the theme of variations and formality.
All the artists on show employ the principle of repetition and variations. The form is often determined from a predetermined strategy.
Conrad, for instance, starts from his standard building blocks to arrive at an architectural stack. David departs from a basic form that he allows to slowly change into variations based on this form. Charlie departs from a specific technique to arrive at variations in his monochromes (polychromes). Lieven starts from a reduced viewing device that generates images from the logic of limitation. (e.g. in the series ‘I never promised you a horizon’).
There is also a crossover to other media in each practice. Conrad works as a sculptor, performer, draughtsman and scenographer. Charlie explores sculpture from his pictorial vision. David floats his Form between printmaking, collage and sculpture. Lieven works from a photographic framework with models, architectural constructions and text.
